How to Edit Alt Text and Manage Asset Details
Every asset in ConversionWax can have a label, alt text, and tags. Keeping these details accurate improves accessibility, helps with SEO, and makes it easier to find assets in your library.
Why Alt Text Matters
Alt text (alternative text) serves two important purposes:
Accessibility - Screen readers use alt text to describe images to visually impaired users. Without it, your banners are invisible to assistive technology.
SEO - Search engines index alt text to understand image content. Descriptive alt text can improve your page rankings and image search visibility.
Editing Asset Details
To edit an asset's details:
Navigate to the Assets page for your website.
Click on the asset you want to edit.
The detail panel opens with inline editing for all fields.
Editable Fields
Label - A descriptive name for the asset. This is what you see in the asset grid and when selecting assets for banners. Use clear, recognizable names like "Summer Sale Hero Desktop" rather than the original filename.
Alt text - A short description of what the image shows. Write it as if you are describing the image to someone who cannot see it. For example: "Woman holding a coffee cup in a cozy cafe setting" rather than "image1" or "banner".
Tags - Assign one or more tags to categorize the asset. Start typing to see autocomplete suggestions from your existing tags, or create a new tag on the fly.
Alt Text Best Practices
Be specific and descriptive - mention key visual elements, products, or actions shown.
Keep it concise - one to two sentences is usually sufficient.
Avoid starting with "Image of" or "Picture of" - screen readers already announce that it is an image.
Include relevant keywords naturally for SEO benefit, but do not stuff keywords.
For decorative images that do not convey information, a brief description is still helpful for context.
Generating New Assets with AI
If you need new image assets, ConversionWax offers a "Generate with AI" option on paid plans. This lets you create images from text prompts directly within the platform. Generated images are automatically saved to your asset library with an "ai-generated" tag, and you can edit their label, alt text, and tags just like any other asset.
Tips
Review alt text periodically, especially after bulk uploads where descriptions may have been skipped.
Use tags consistently across your asset library to make filtering and searching more effective.
Update labels when repurposing assets for new campaigns so the name still makes sense in context.
