ConversionWax shows different banners, slideshows and text to different visitors on your Shopify storefront. You choose who sees what by location, audience, URL variables and schedule. The app also reports how each piece of content performs and, with Last Mile, where your visits and orders come from.
Before you start
You need a Shopify store with an Online Store theme that supports app blocks and app embeds.
You need to be able to install apps on the store.
1. Install the app
Install ConversionWax from the Shopify App Store.
Click Install and approve the permissions Shopify shows.
The app opens in your Shopify admin. Pick a plan when asked (next section).
2. Choose a plan
Open Plans in the app menu and click Select on the plan you want. Shopify shows its own approval screen and bills you every 30 days on your Shopify invoice.
| Starter | Growth | Professional |
Price | $19 per 30 days | $99 per 30 days | $199 per 30 days |
Pageviews per billing cycle | 10,000 | 100,000 | 500,000 |
Content items per store | 5 | 25 | 100 |
A/B tests running at once | 1 | 5 | Unlimited |
Variants per A/B test | 2 | 3 | 5 |
Your plan card on the Plans page always shows the current limits and what else the plan includes.
If you go over your pageview limit, the app shows a banner on the Plans page and Dashboard.
3. Turn on the app embed
The app embed loads ConversionWax on your storefront. Turn it on once per theme.
In the app, open Embed setup.
In step 1, click Open theme editor. The Shopify theme editor opens on the App embeds panel.
Switch ConversionWax on and click Save in the theme editor.
Back on Embed setup, the status shows that the embed is on.
4. Add the ConversionWax Content block
Each piece of content appears where you place a ConversionWax Content block.
On Embed setup, step 2, click the button to open the theme editor on the page you want. Or open the theme editor yourself and go to the page.
In the section where the content should appear, click Add block and choose ConversionWax Content (under Apps).
In the block settings, open Content and select a content piece. Only published content appears in the list.
Click Save.
For body text you can turn on Replace section text. Enter the original text in the block. Visitors who match a variant see the variant. Everyone else, and anyone whose content takes longer than 1.5 seconds to load, keeps the original text.
5. Create and publish content
Open Content, then create new content.
Choose a type:
Banner: a single image per screen size, optionally an A/B pair.
Slideshow: several banner positions, each cycling through images.
Text: a short text element.
Body text: a formatted section of copy (headings, lists, links) that can replace the text already on the page.
Add your images or text. Upload images in Assets to reuse them.
Set targeting (next section).
Publish. Published content appears in the ConversionWax Content block picker. Changes can take a short time to reach your storefront.
6. Targeting rules
Targeting decides who sees a piece of content. Visitors who do not match see your default content or the original page.
Location: show content by country or region.
Audience: source, medium, segment (new or returning), session number, days since first touch, pages viewed this session, and first touch source. You can also hide content from customers who bought recently.
URL variables: match on parameters in the page URL, for example a utm_campaign value.
Schedule: set a start and end date and time.
You can combine rules. Within Audience, a visitor must match every field you fill in. Leave all rules empty to show the content to everyone.
7. A/B testing
Available on all plans, with limits by plan (see the table). Add a variant in the content editor, publish, and compare results in Analytics.
8. Analytics
Open Analytics to see views and interactions for each piece of content over a date range. Dashboard shows a summary. Pageview counts for billing use ConversionWax’s own count and may differ from Shopify’s.
9. Ideas
Ideas suggests content to create based on your traffic. How often new ideas appear depends on your plan. Open Ideas in the app menu to review them.
10. Last Mile
Last Mile shows where your visits and orders come from. The tabs available depend on your plan, and your plan card on the Plans page lists them. Tabs include Overview, Visits, Channels, Ad spend, Recommendations and Lift tests.
Consent and tracking
Last Mile storefront tracking starts only after the shopper allows analytics (and, for the identity cookies, preferences) in Shopify’s Customer Privacy settings. If the shopper declines, or withdraws consent later, ConversionWax stops collecting and clears its Last Mile cookies. Your store needs a consent banner or region settings that set these choices where the law requires one.
When orders appear
Order attribution appears within 24 hours of the order. Reports for very recent days can be incomplete. Orders from visitors who did not give consent are not attributed to a visit.
11. Change or cancel your plan
Change: open Plans, click Select on another plan, and confirm. Shopify may apply a downgrade at the start of your next billing cycle. Your limits change when the new plan starts.
Cancel: open Plans, scroll to Cancel plan, click Cancel plan and confirm. Your plan ends right away, features tied to the plan stop working, and the charge is prorated. The app then sends you to the Plans page, where you choose a plan to continue. Until you do, the app shows only the Plans page.
You do not need to contact support or reinstall to change plans.
12. Uninstall and your data
To uninstall, go to Shopify admin, Settings, Apps, and remove ConversionWax. You can also remove the ConversionWax Content blocks from your theme.
What happens to data:
ConversionWax keeps your Shopify data while the app is installed.
48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify sends a shop/redact request. ConversionWax then deletes the Last Mile data it holds for your store.
If a customer asks you to delete their data, Shopify sends a customers/redact request and ConversionWax deletes that shopper’s data.
Data requests (customers/data_request) are answered within 30 days. ConversionWax records the request and exports the data to you.
If you reinstall, choose a plan again.
13. Contact support
Email [email protected] or use the chat on help.conversionwax.com. Include your store domain (yourstore.myshopify.com) and a short description.
